Featured in Model Engineers’ Workshop Magazine (No. 288, page 22), one of our M-DRO Digital Readout customers has written an article on how he has worked on a project to set correct rotation speed according to size of cutter and material being machined.

Andrew Carruthers said “the image shows the finished display clip mounted on the Digital Readout (DRO). I also wanted the end result to be aesthetically pleasing and in-keeping with the DRO I am installing but at the same time, be easily differentiated, so I chose the blue display to contrast with the red DRO display. This modification is inexpensive and a quick project to build and delivers valuable information to the operator. Only basic soldering skills and a few readily available parts from either your spares bin or online are required, the display case can be made from offcuts, or if available, 3D printed which is the route I took.”

comparison ultrasonic plug

Have you ever considered purchasing one of our industrial grade extra-large Ultrasonic Cleaners, but the 3-phase power source is proving an issue?

We have a solution – we now have availability on single-phase extra-large Ultrasonic Cleaners, which will still heat the circuits just like a 3-phase power source would do. If this is of interest, we have capacities of 57 Litres, 90 Litres and 99 Litres in single-phase options.

These new single-phase XL Ultrasonic Tanks use a 16A 3-pin plug which can be wired into most single-phase domestic and light commercial premises where 3-phase wiring isn’t present, resulting in identical performance and operation to the 3-phase variants. As well as matching performance, this can also be a more cost-effective and straight-forward option, compared to running new circuits even when 3-phase is present.

electrical terminals

A customer of ours purchased some replacement brushes for a Bosch Jigsaw online, however, when they arrived from China, the push on spade terminals was heavily rusted. Instead of receiving a refund, he decided to put our Ultrasonic Cleaner paired with our Oxidation Cleaning Fluid to the test and tried to remove the rust himself.

Being only 3mm wide and 8mm long, the usual abrasive tools wire brushes and emery paper were impractical to use, so our customer placed them inside a beaker in our 3 litre Ultrasonic Cleaner. He also added 10% of Oxidation Remover Solution inside the beaker with distilled water inside the Ultrasonic Tank then started the cleaning process at 50 Degrees Celsius.

The rust and oxidisation were starting to shift after a few minutes with the fluid becoming cloudy, after 30 minutes it was completely gone and the shiny silver colour base metal was exposed where the rusting had been. This was a time-saving solution to the problem which got into the intricate shape of the connectors, allowing our customer to use the brushes for their intended application.

Electrical Terminals

Featured in December’s Model Engineers’ Workshop Magazine (No. 288, page 13), one of our customers has written an article on how he has created a Micrometer Roller Box for ‘running down’ long thing workpieces, with the help of our 25mm (1") Digital Depth Gauge.

As mentioned in the article, a Roller Box is used on a capstan or turret lathe, which brings the next tool into operation as the turret is racked to and from. Our Digital Depth Gauge features a small diameter round pin which makes it easy to measure the depth of smaller spaces, perfect for the application Howard Lewis was using it for. It was used to ensure the slot depth in the tool bits was correct.
